Young, single, heterosexual adults, most of whom were Caucasian and middle class, role played a series of datingscenarios. In half of the 37 dyads, male participantswere instructed to initiate a first date and then latergreater sexual intimacy, to which their female partners were instructed to say they were notready the condition designed to reproduce dominantdiscourse themes. In the other half, the instructionsfor the male and female partners were reversed the condition designed to change or disruptdominant discourse themes. Analysis of the role-playeddialogues indicated that dominant discourse themesassociated with the male sexual drive discourse wereprevalent in both experimental conditions. Ways ofbroadening our understanding of how gender processes arereproduced and disrupted are discussed in the context ofheterosexual dating relationships.

Thanks to dating apps, it’s easy to find options for sex and romance from your smartphone. But even though Tinder dominates popular dating discourse, you actually have a few different options. Tinder is probably one of the, if not the most famous, dating app of modern times. According to the creators, the app is used daily by 26 million users who have found over 30 billion matches so far. At Tinder you register with Facebook or your mail address. Then create a profile consisting of some pictures, your name, profession and age and a short text about you.
In addition, you specify what you are looking for, how young your desired sex may be and then specify a radius in which you want to search. Then you wipe through the profiles of potential partners in your environment. A Swipe to the right is a Like, a Swipe to the left is the opposite. If both users wipe each other’s profile to the right, a match is created and you can chat with each other.
As long as your interest is not reciprocated, the other users will not learn anything about your Like. Tap on the respective photo to open the profile.

The male sexual drive discourse posits that men are driven by a biological necessity to procure and engage in heterosex, and once aroused, must experience sexual release via coitus and orgasm. Within this discourse, women are positioned as passive and responsive to male sexuality, and as distinctly lacking a physical desire for sex. This discourse positions men as sex-driven and women as offering up their sexuality to men in exchange for children and the security of a home life Hollway, Although this discourse is supposedly gender-blind, it is intersected by other discourses which affect men and women differently.
Women are increasingly occupying a more active, agentic, and desirous sexual subjectivity Farvid, In what continues to be a society governed by patriarchal power relations, struggles against sexual assault and gender-based violence remain life-threatening risks for women Gavey, ; Vance,

At the time of this writing, the coronavirus disease COVID pandemic outbreak has already put tremendous strain on many countries’ citizens, resources, and economies around the world. With people forced out of public spaces, much of the conversation about these phenomena now occurs online on social media platforms like Twitter. Since the inception of our collection, we have actively maintained and updated our GitHub repository on a weekly basis.
This paper also presents basic statistics that show that Twitter activity responds and reacts to COVIDrelated events. Challenging Discourse Themes Reproducing Gender in Heterosexual Dating: An Analog Study
More recently, a plethora of market-minded dating books are coaching singles on how to seal a romantic deal, and dating apps, which have rapidly become the mode du jour for single people to meet each other, make sex and romance even more like shopping. The idea that a population of single people can be analyzed like a market might be useful to some extent to sociologists or economists, but the widespread adoption of it by single people themselves can result in a warped outlook on love. M oira Weigel , the author of Labor of Love: The Invention of Dating , argues that dating as we know it—single people going out together to restaurants, bars, movies, and other commercial or semicommercial spaces—came about in the late 19th century.
What dating does is it takes that process out of the home, out of supervised and mostly noncommercial spaces, to movie theaters and dance halls.

There is also a steady stream of discourse dedicated to how Indian women are gaining sexual agency, in that they are no longer hesitant when it comes to casual sex, being with married men, or having an open relationship. Hook-ups and casual dating, via an app or otherwise, are perceived to be creating a sex-positive culture for Indian women who may otherwise be inhibited from experiencing unbridled sexual pleasure inside or outside of a relationship.
Not all Dalit women cisgender, heterosexual, urban, and educated , who consider dating as a possible route to finding romantic partners, necessarily share the same experience. At the heart of a good, intimate relationship is the understanding that those involved in sustaining that bond are of value. But how is this value determined and who in the relationship determines it?
The highest value, as defined by Hinduism, has traditionally been ascribed to the Brahmin woman, followed by the Kshatriya, the Vaishya, and the Shudra. The modern-day ideal is also a savarna or a savarna-passing woman, who is typically light-skinned and able-bodied, belonging to a family that has monetary and social capital, and embodying qualities considered to be feminine.
The farther one is from this ideal, the more undervalued she is perceived to be.
